About the summit

New approaches, new challenges, new business models: How will the industry’s future unfold?

Biopharma’s future looks bright. Capital investment in the sector has topped $8billion, turning Ireland into a thriving biopharma hub with a growing thirst for more and more talent. Indeed, according to the government’s recently published Expert Group on Future Skills Needs in the Biopharma Industry report, the sector will create 8,500 more jobs over the next 5 years, bringing the total number employed in the sector in Ireland to almost 40,000.

But, risks and uncertainties lie ahead for this global industry. Key challenges include the changing economic and political landscape, pressure from cash-strapped healthcare systems and balancing patient access with promoting future innovation. Equally, scrutiny of high prices for speciality drugs and advanced technologies is increasing. It’s against this background that companies will need to develop new commercial models, while keeping a watchful eye on the competitive landscape for the incursion of non-traditional players with whom they will increasingly compete (or partner) with to deliver patient-centred products and services.

Spotlighting the strategic development of the sector, this half-day event will explore the issues and trends that will affect the commercial success of this vibrant and growing, yet under threat, sector.
